Latest Innovation Allows Women to Adjust the Size of Their Implants After Surgery
Friday March 27, 2009
Surgeons have found in recent years that some women tend to be unhappy with the results of their augmentation surgery. Though a patient may request to be a DD-cup, she may, in actuality, be more comfortable as a D-cup. Manufacturing differences among breast implant makers also can lead to a look that the patient was not expecting.
For this reason, researchers created a new way to “adjust” implants, up to several months after the initial surgery. Saline implants, or implants with a core of silicone and an outer shell of saline can be manipulated by the surgeon, to make the patient’s breasts larger, or smaller, to meet her requests.
Oftentimes, the breasts remain swollen for up to two months after the surgery. After this amount of time, a woman may decide that she is not as large as she would have liked. Through a tiny tube implanted underneath the patient’s skin, the surgeon can use a special syringe to either add or remove some of the saline. This will adjust the size ever so slightly and may lead to more desirable results.
