Women Still Able to Nurse after Breast Reduction Surgery
Friday March 27, 2009
Though many surgeons warn that patients who undergo breast reduction surgery will not be able to nurse their babies later in life, a recent article in Mothering magazine proves otherwise. The author tells her story about how she was told that she would not be able to nurse her baby sons. However, after their birth, she was able to provide some of her own milk and supplement this nourishment with formula.
The author says that surgeons prepare women for the worst, because in fact, some will not be able to provide milk after the surgery. However, the vast majority of women can produce some nourishment for their children. This is important to realize, because of the numerous benefits children receive from even the smallest amount of their mothers’ breast milk.
The author encouraged breast reduction patients to discuss future breastfeeding with their surgeons before and after the operation. For more information, contact your local plastic surgery expert today!
