Study Finds that Women Benefit from Breast Reduction, Should be Reimbursed

According to a first of its kind study, by the Cornell Medical Center and the New York University School of Medicine, women, especially those who have small frames, benefit immensely from breast reductions. These women have been struggling to get their insurance companies to cover the cost. However, the companies refuse, on the grounds that a reduction surgery is a “cosmetic” procedure.

In the study, 59 patients had under 500 grams of breast tissue removed from their breasts. None of the patients had ever had an augmentation surgery. Their results were tracked three months and one year after their surgeries. The women were asked about changes in pain levels and quality of life. All women showed a marked improvement.
