Types of Breast Reduction

Breast reduction is a procedure which is completed to decrease breast size or shape for women who have uncomfortable or painful breasts. Breast reduction is also an option for when breasts are two different sizes and need to be repaired. Bilateral breast reduction is the surgical reduction of both breasts, and unilateral breast reduction is the surgical reduction of a single breast. Men may also undergo breast reduction surgery when suffering from Gynecomastia.

Breast Reduction Side Effects

Breast reduction is designed to remove breast tissue to reduce the weight of the breast, which creates a smaller, lighter and more visually pleasing breast. Just like with all other surgeries, there are potential complications. Here we will touch on some of the side effects of breast reduction, which include bleeding, reaction to anesthesia, infection and pain. Most pain can be treated with a simple prescription from a plastic surgeon, but if the pain is long lasting or severe, it may be necessary to follow up with your physician for a stronger prescription or other options as needed.

Recovery after Breast Reduction

Breast reduction is a safe and common procedure, but it is still a major surgery, and for that reason, some recovery time is going to be necessary. Patients who are undergoing the surgery should always have a good idea of what they can expect when it comes to the breast reduction recovery process, that way they can prepare for it adequately before they go in for the operation.

Breast Reduction for Men (Gynecomastia)

The best candidates for this surgery are men who have enlarged breasts as a result of Gynecomastia. The procedure time takes approximately two hours, and only requires one single treatment in order to correct the problem. The results of this surgery are permanent, so one treatment is the only treatment ever required to deal with the issues associated with Gynecomastia in men. Today, as many as 50 percent of all men are affected by the condition known as Gynecomastia, which is described as an enlargement of one or both of the breasts.

Breast Reduction Costs

The cost of breast reduction surgery actually involves three different fees. The first fee is the anesthesia fee, the second fee is the facility fee and the third fee is the surgeon's fee. The surgeon's fee is the most difficult to actually predict, because you first need to know the extent of the procedure needed for your individual needs, as well as the individual qualifications of the plastic surgeon that you decide to work with.
